Wyndham Signs Upscale 190-Room Hotel in Guwahati, Marking Northeast India Entry

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of a 190-room upscale hotel in Guwahati, Assam, in partnership with Om Arham Ventures, marking the brand’s debut in one of Northeast India’s fastest-growing hospitality markets. The brownfield development is scheduled to open in the second half of 2028.

Market Entry into a Strategic Gateway

This signing represents Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ formal entry into the Guwahati market, a key commercial and tourism gateway to Northeast India. With improving connectivity and rising economic activity, the city is witnessing increased demand for quality hospitality infrastructure.

The upcoming hotel aims to address this demand by offering contemporary accommodation tailored to both business and leisure travellers.

Project Overview and Positioning

The 190-room hotel is positioned as a full-service upscale property, featuring modern guest rooms and suites. Notably, it will operate as a pure-vegetarian hotel, aligning with evolving regional preferences and differentiated positioning in the local market.

The property will include multiple dining venues, designed to cater to diverse guest needs while maintaining its core culinary identity.

Focus on Events and MICE Demand

A key feature of the development is its large-format banquet and conferencing infrastructure. The hotel will offer expansive event spaces, positioning it as a preferred destination for weddings, social gatherings, and corporate events.

This focus on MICE and social celebrations reflects the growing demand for integrated hospitality venues in Guwahati, particularly as the city strengthens its role as a regional hub.

Wellness and Guest Experience Offerings

In addition to accommodation and event facilities, the hotel will incorporate wellness and recreation amenities, including a fitness centre, spa, and swimming pool. These features are designed to enhance guest experience and align with expectations from upscale hospitality offerings.

Ownership Perspective

Vijay Singh Daga and Pankaj Kumar Jain of Om Arham Ventures highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, noting that the project introduces an internationally recognised brand to Guwahati while responding to specific market needs.

They emphasised that the hotel’s pure-vegetarian positioning and extensive banquet capacity are expected to set new benchmarks for upscale hospitality and event hosting in the region.

Brand Strategy and Expansion Outlook

Rahool Macarius, Market Managing Director, Eurasia, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, stated that Guwahati’s emergence as a commercial and tourism gateway makes it a priority market for expansion.

He added that the signing aligns with the company’s broader strategy of entering high-growth gateway cities and strengthening its presence through globally recognised brands supported by a strong distribution network.

Strategic Significance

The Guwahati signing underscores Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ continued focus on expanding its footprint in emerging regional markets across India. As Northeast India gains prominence in tourism and business travel, the development is expected to contribute to the city’s evolving hospitality landscape.
