Summit Hotels & Resorts has announced the launch of Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang in Gangtok, marking the brand’s entry into the retreat hotel segment in Sikkim. The newly opened 38-room hilltop property is located in Pangthang and offers sweeping views of the Eastern Himalayas, with Mount Kanchenjunga visible from the retreat.

Set amid pine plantations and pristine mountain landscapes, the property is designed for travellers seeking tranquillity, nature-led experiences, and immersive stays. While it remains within convenient driving distance of Gangtok’s township, its elevated location creates a peaceful escape from urban activity.

Commenting on the launch, Sumit Mitruka, Founder & Managing Director, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said that the Gangtok region is witnessing rising demand from travellers looking for deeper engagement with nature and a stronger sense of place beyond traditional sightseeing. He noted that Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang reflects the group’s evolving approach to destination-led hospitality, where wellness, environment, and local context are thoughtfully integrated. The launch also strengthens Summit’s presence in Northeast India.

Rooms Designed for Views and Extended Stays

The retreat features 38 rooms across multiple categories, including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites, and luxury suites. All rooms come with private balconies to ensure uninterrupted Himalayan views, while select suites include separate living and dining areas, making them suitable for longer stays.

Key Achievements

In line with regional climate considerations and sustainability practices, rooms do not include air conditioning or minibars.

Wellness, Dining, and Event Spaces

Wellness forms a central part of the guest experience, with the property offering a dedicated spa, along with yoga and meditation spaces designed for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Current Role & Responsibilities

Dining options include a multi-cuisine restaurant serving regional Sikkimese flavours alongside Indian and international dishes. A sun deck overlooking Kanchenjunga enhances the immersive nature-led experience.

For gatherings and celebrations, the retreat also features a banquet hall of approximately 5,000 square feet, capable of hosting over 500 guests, making it suitable for destination events, retreats, and intimate social functions.
