Six Senses Fort Barwara Marks National Energy Conservation Day with Stronger Commitment to Regenerative Hospitality

Six Senses Fort Barwara has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to energy efficiency and regenerative operations as India observes National Energy Conservation Day. Housed within a meticulously restored 14th-century fort, the resort continues to showcase how heritage conservation and modern sustainability practices can complement each other seamlessly.

Preserving Heritage Through Responsible Innovation

The property’s sustainability approach is rooted in the belief that meaningful guest experiences emerge when cultural legacy and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. According to Rajat Gera, Commercial Director, the team’s initiatives are purpose-built to strengthen the fort’s original character while enhancing overall guest comfort. He emphasised that travellers today look for experiences that feel authentic, conscious, and connected to the land.

Smart Energy Systems for Lower Resource Footprint

Over the past year, the resort has implemented a series of intelligent energy management solutions designed to reduce load on electrical and mechanical systems. These include:

  • Motion sensors in operational areas

  • Automated and dimmable lighting controls

  • Running-hour meters for high-consumption equipment

  • Natural ventilation strategies aligned with the fort’s original architecture

A major innovation is the integration of a Solar Water Panel System, which supports daily water heating without altering the external heritage façade. This system has enabled the resort to reduce electricity usage by 3–5%, cut diesel consumption by around 5%, and lower carbon emissions by 3–5% on an average day.

Comfort and Conscious Living as Brand Values

Aaron McGrath, Regional General Manager for Six Senses India and Bhutan, noted that energy conservation is embedded into the brand’s everyday operations. Every upgrade at Six Senses Fort Barwara, he said, is carefully evaluated to ensure it respects the fort’s original design while supporting a greener future.

Holistic Water Stewardship

Water efficiency remains a central pillar of the resort’s sustainability roadmap. Through

  • Aerators and sensor-based faucets

  • Real-time leak monitoring

  • A high-efficiency water recycling system

the property successfully recycles 65% of its daily water, with nearly half redirected towards landscape nourishment. This reduces the energy required for water treatment and aligns the resort with regenerative best practices.

Cleaner Mobility and Future-Focused Upgrades

To encourage sustainable travel, Six Senses Fort Barwara now features a 22 kW EV charging station accessible to both guests and local communities. Additional upgrades in progress include:

  • Pool covers to reduce evaporation and heat-pump load

  • New high-efficiency heat pumps aimed at reducing diesel dependency

  • Resource-optimised climate control systems for guest and host areas

A Regenerative Pathway for Indian Heritage Hospitality

As the resort advances its conservation strategy, its focus remains on operational practices that regenerate local ecosystems, honour centuries-old architecture, and support India’s climate and sustainability objectives. Through continuous investment in smart technology and environment-forward design, Six Senses Fort Barwara aims to set new standards for sustainable heritage hospitality in the country.
