Seclude Hotels Unveils Restored 19th-Century Royal Residence Near Hampi

Seclude Hotels has announced the launch of Seclude Hampi 1800, a carefully restored six-bedroom royal heritage residence located in Sandur, Karnataka, close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi. The opening marks Seclude Hotels’ entry into a destination globally celebrated for its historic monuments, while offering travellers an intimate and culturally immersive stay experience.

A Heritage Home Rooted in Royal History

Career Background

Dating back to the 19th century, the residence was originally part of the Sandur royal family’s estate. The restoration has been undertaken with a strong emphasis on preservation, retaining original architectural elements, carved artefacts, paintings, and brass décor. These historical features have been thoughtfully integrated into the interiors, allowing the home’s legacy to remain central to the guest experience.

Architecture and Design Inspired by the Region

Set amid palm-lined gardens, Seclude Hampi 1800 reflects the region’s traditional architectural style. Rather than being reset to a conventional hotel, the residence has been designed to function as a living heritage home, offering privacy, tranquillity, and a sense of place.

Key Achievements

Each of the six rooms carries a distinct name inspired by local culture and history, drawing references from Hampi’s bazaars, mythology, and spiritual heritage, further deepening the narrative connection to the destination.

Gateway to Hampi’s Cultural Landscape

The property’s location allows guests convenient access to Hampi’s temples, royal enclosures, historic bazaars, and riverside landscapes. Experiences in and around the region include exploring ancient ruins, discovering musical pillars, and taking coracle rides along the Tungabhadra River, offering a deeply immersive cultural journey.

Vision Behind the Restoration

Current Role & Responsibilities

Commenting on the launch, Ramit Sethi, Founder, Seclude Hotels, noted that Sandur reflects the brand’s focus on offbeat destinations with strong storytelling value. Rohit Sethi, Co-Founder, added that the intention was to preserve the residence as a heritage home rather than transform it into a traditional hotel, allowing history, architecture, and hospitality to coexist naturally.

Strengthening Seclude’s Heritage Portfolio

With the introduction of Seclude Hampi 1800, Seclude Hotels continues to strengthen its portfolio of distinctive heritage residences, blending sensitive restoration, cultural authenticity, and understated luxury to create meaningful travel experiences rooted in history and place.
