Radisson Hotel Group signs first internationally branded resort in Kalimpong, West Bengal

Strategic expansion into emerging leisure markets

Radisson Hotel Group has announced the signing of Radisson Resort Kalimpong, marking its entry into Kalimpong, a scenic hill destination in West Bengal. The move aligns with the Group’s strategy to expand in high-potential, underpenetrated leisure markets and strengthen its footprint across Eastern India.

The signing reflects Radisson’s continued focus on entering secondary and high-barrier destinations early, positioning its global brands in emerging tourism markets with long-term growth potential.

Kalimpong’s rising appeal as a leisure destination

Located in the Eastern Himalayas, Kalimpong is gaining traction among travellers for its cool climate, colonial heritage and panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range. The destination is increasingly attracting leisure tourists seeking alternatives to more crowded hill stations, supported by its proximity to established tourism circuits in West Bengal and Sikkim.

Improving accessibility, including road connectivity and proximity to Siliguri—approximately 67 km away—further enhances its potential as a weekend and experiential travel destination.

Resort features and positioning

Radisson Resort Kalimpong will offer 100 rooms, comprising 90 standard rooms and 10 suites, with uninterrupted views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

The resort is designed to cater to both leisure and MICE demand, featuring:

  • All-day dining restaurant and tea lounge
  • Banquet hall and multiple meeting spaces
  • Conference room and business lounge
  • Spa, fitness centre and infinity pool

This combination positions the property as a destination for weddings, corporate retreats and social gatherings alongside leisure stays.

Strengthening Eastern India portfolio

The project reinforces Radisson Hotel Group’s ambition to expand its presence in Eastern and North-Eastern India. With a significant share of its portfolio already in tier-2 and tier-3 markets, the Group continues to prioritise emerging destinations that offer limited branded competition and strong long-term demand potential.

The Kalimpong resort, currently at an advanced stage of development, is expected to contribute to the region’s hospitality ecosystem by introducing international standards of service and infrastructure.

Partnership and development outlook

The resort is being developed in partnership with Gajbadan Tradewing Private Limited, aiming to elevate Kalimpong’s hospitality landscape through a globally recognised brand.

The collaboration reflects confidence in the destination’s tourism potential and is expected to create a landmark property that blends international hospitality standards with the unique cultural and natural character of the Eastern Himalayas.
