IHCL Unveils ‘Jewel of the Lake’ Book Celebrating Taj Lake Palace Udaipur’s Enduring Legacy

IHCL launches commemorative book on Taj Lake Palace

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has introduced Jewel of the Lake: Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, a commemorative book that captures the legacy of one of India’s most iconic heritage hotels. Situated in the middle of Lake Pichola, the Taj Lake Palace has long been recognised as a symbol of royal grandeur and timeless luxury.

A curated narrative of history, design and legacy

Conceptualised under the creative direction of Rymn Massand, the book brings together archival material, historical insights and visual storytelling. It traces the evolution of the palace while highlighting its architectural finesse, intricate craftsmanship and cultural significance.

Leadership perspective on Taj’s legacy

Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of IHCL, emphasised the importance of the palace in Taj’s journey. He noted that Taj Lake Palace marked a key milestone in expanding the brand’s footprint beyond Mumbai, and continues to represent the group’s philosophy of preserving heritage through immersive guest experiences.

From royal residence to global luxury icon

Originally built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II of the Mewar dynasty as a summer retreat known as Jagniwas, the palace has transformed into a luxury hotel while retaining its historic essence. Its marble architecture, intricate detailing and lakeside setting continue to define its global appeal.

Reflections from the House of Mewar

The publication also includes perspectives from Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Custodian of the House of Mewar. He reflects on the palace’s dual identity as both an ancestral home and a living cultural landmark that continues to welcome guests from around the world.

Celebrating heritage with global recognition

Recently honoured with Three Michelin Keys, Taj Lake Palace remains among the world’s most distinguished heritage hotels. The book serves as a tribute to nearly three centuries of history, artistry and hospitality excellence, offering readers a deeper understanding of its legacy.
