IHCL Expands Airport Presence with New Ginger Property at Mumbai's Terminal 2

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) is strengthening its position in India's aviation hospitality sector with the signing of a 200-room Ginger hotel at Mumbai International Airport's Terminal 2, marking the company's second property at the country's second-busiest airport.

The development represents a strategic move by India's largest hospitality group to capture the growing demand from the increasing passenger traffic flowing through Mumbai's modern terminal. The new property will complement the existing Ginger hotel at Terminal 1, establishing comprehensive coverage across both of Mumbai Airport's key terminals.

Strategic Airport Portfolio

Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President for Real Estate and Development at IHCL, emphasized that the signing demonstrates the company's ongoing commitment to establishing presence at India's most critical transit points. The company has built a substantial airport hotel network that includes properties in Bengaluru, Kolkata, and MOPA Goa, with additional locations near the airports of Nagpur and Coimbatore.

The Terminal 2 property forms part of a larger mixed-use development that combines hotel, retail, and commercial spaces—a format increasingly popular at major Indian airports where travelers seek integrated convenience.

Amenities and Design

The hotel will showcase Ginger's contemporary approach to mid-market hospitality, featuring the brand's signature Qmin all-day dining concept, a modern bar, dedicated meeting spaces, and comprehensive fitness facilities. This configuration targets both corporate travelers requiring efficient business amenities and leisure guests seeking comfort and convenience.

Partnership and Development

IHCL has partnered with Hazoor Multiprojects Private Limited (HMPL), a Mumbai-based infrastructure and real estate developer with experience in major regional projects, including expressway development across Maharashtra. Tunviey Mopalwar, representing HMPL, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration and its potential to enhance hospitality options at this prime location.

Growing Mumbai Footprint

The Terminal 2 signing brings IHCL's total Mumbai portfolio to 14 properties, including two currently under development. This concentration reflects Mumbai's status as both a major business center and gateway city for international visitors to India.

The company's broader portfolio spans 602 hotels globally—with an additional 247 in development—across four continents and 14 countries. Its brand portfolio ranges from the luxury Taj brand, recently named World's Strongest Hotel Brand 2025 by Brand Finance, to the economy-focused Ginger concept, covering multiple hospitality segments.

The airport hotel sector in India has seen accelerated growth as passenger numbers recover and expand beyond pre-pandemic levels, creating opportunities for hospitality groups to serve transit passengers, flight crews, and business travelers seeking proximity to aviation hubs.
