Introduction

The Hospitality Purchasing Managers’ Forum (HPMF) hosted its Eastern Chapter Annual Convention 2026 in Kolkata on April 11, bringing together procurement leaders, hospitality professionals, and industry partners from across India, Nepal, and Bhutan. The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and strategic discussions shaping the future of hospitality procurement.

Event Opening and Cultural Showcase

The convention commenced with a traditional welcome, featuring regional cultural elements such as Dhaki, Dhunuchi, and Shankho rituals, followed by a Baisakhi-themed dance performance. The ceremonial lamp lighting by advisory board members and distinguished guests formally inaugurated the event, setting the tone for an evening of industry engagement.

Key Addresses and Industry Focus

The event featured addresses by Dr Phalguni Das, Dr Souvagya Mahapatra, and Dr Nitin Shankar Nagrale, Founder and General Secretary of HPMF. Speakers highlighted the increasing importance of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing in strengthening procurement functions within the hospitality sector.

Expansion and Strategic Partnerships

A key highlight of the convention was the launch of HPMF’s Assam and Bhutan Chapters, marking a significant step in expanding the forum’s regional footprint.

The event also saw the announcement of a strategic collaboration with the Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM). As part of this initiative, HPMF will sponsor a Materials Management certification course for 10 members, reinforcing its focus on professional development and capability building.

Industry Dialogue and Panel Discussion

The convention hosted a panel discussion titled “India Hospitality Growth Story: How Strategic Procurement Can Drive Scale, Sustainability & Self-Reliance.” The session explored how procurement functions are evolving to support operational efficiency, sustainability goals, and long-term growth across hospitality organisations.

Cultural and Networking Highlights

The event integrated cultural performances, including Baul music and live instrumental sessions, reflecting the region’s heritage while fostering informal networking among attendees. Sponsor presentations and partner engagements further contributed to industry dialogue and collaboration.

Recognition and CSR Initiatives

The convention also acknowledged industry contributions through memento presentations and included discussions around corporate social responsibility initiatives, particularly in supporting local artisans and handicrafts.
