The Westin Pune Koregaon Park, part of Marriott International’s global luxury portfolio, has announced the appointment of Gopakumar G. Pillai as its new Director of Engineering. With more than 25 years of international experience across hospitality, infrastructure, and property operations, Pillai joins the 277-key hotel to lead its engineering and technical functions.

A seasoned engineering professional, Pillai is widely recognised for his expertise in hotel pre-openings, preventive and predictive maintenance, technical services leadership, and sustainability-driven operations. His career spans leadership roles with prominent hospitality brands including Marriott International, IHG, and Accor, across India and the Middle East.

Responsibilities at the 277-Key Property

In his current role, Pillai will oversee the complete engineering and technical operations of 277 guest rooms, four restaurants, and 11 event venues covering over 24,500 sq. ft. His responsibilities include driving operational efficiency, managing renovation and asset lifecycle planning, strengthening sustainability initiatives, ensuring statutory compliance, and maintaining alignment with Marriott International’s safety and technical standards.

Multi-Property and International Leadership Background

Key Achievements

Prior to joining The Westin Pune Koregaon Park, Pillai served as Director of Engineering / Chief Engineer (Task Force) with Marriott International Hotels, leading multi-property operations across Jaipur, Nagpur, Faridabad, and Ahmedabad. Internationally, he has held senior roles such as Cluster Director of Engineering for St. Regis, Sheraton, and Four Points hotels in Kuwait, overseeing a large luxury hospitality complex, and Chief Engineer at Mövenpick Hotel Tahlia Jeddah.

Among his key accomplishments are the successful pre-opening of six international hotels, securing sustainability certifications including Green Globe, Green Keys, and ISO 14001:2015, and contributing to teams recognised at global hospitality award platforms.
