Hotel room tariffs in Delhi have come under scrutiny ahead of the AI Impact Summit 2026, with some media reports claiming prices have touched ₹5 lakh per night. However, the hospitality industry has clarified that while rates have increased due to extraordinary demand, the weighted average room rates remain significantly lower than the highest figures being cited.

Reports of High Tariffs During Summit Week

Ahead of the summit scheduled at Bharat Mandapam from February 16–20, several travel portals displayed peak prices in premium categories. Select luxury suites and presidential accommodations were reportedly listed between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh per night.

High-end properties in central Delhi and the diplomatic enclave witnessed near-full occupancy, particularly on February 18–20, traditionally peak event days.

Industry Body Reviews Claims

Following the reports, Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat convened a review meeting with the Hotel Association of India (HAI).

According to HAI’s quick assessment with member hotels

• Weighted average room rates during the summit range between ₹40,000 and ₹60,000 per night.

• A large share of inventory was pre-contracted at negotiated rates well in advance.

• Media-cited lakh-level tariffs largely reflect premium suites and limited remaining inventory.

HAI clarified that the most expensive publicly visible rates represent high-category suites rather than standard rooms.

Demand Driven by Multiple Factors

The surge in occupancy is not attributed solely to the AI Impact Summit. Delhi is simultaneously hosting:

• Around 12 major wedding dates

• Ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup fixtures

• International delegates and corporate travel linked to the summit

This combination has created exceptional compression across luxury and upscale segments.

Luxury Categories Command Premium Pricing

During peak global events, hotels typically follow dynamic pricing models. When standard categories are sold out, remaining availability is often limited to:

• Deluxe and club-level rooms

• Executive suites

• Presidential suites

These premium offerings include enhanced services, security provisions, and exclusivity — justifying higher tariffs during peak demand windows.

Pre-Contracted Inventory Moderates Impact

Industry sources indicate that a significant portion of hotel rooms for summit delegates was blocked months in advance at agreed rates. As a result, the effective realized rates across the market are lower than headline numbers suggest.

Industry Reaffirms Commitment

The Hotel Association of India emphasized that while it does not regulate individual pricing decisions, it remains committed to transparency and responsible hospitality practices.

The body has urged member hotels to extend full cooperation to ensure a seamless experience for international dignitaries and guests, reinforcing India’s image as a reliable global event host.
